These freedoms are not
free. Large numbers of our citizens
have given the ultimate sacrifice
(their lives) so the majority
of us may continue to
enjoy
these freedoms.
Unfortunately many American citizens have forgotten
their
responsibilities and this country
has become only a shadow
of what it used to be. Consider the following;
Our freedoms do not mean a person
can
trespass on other
citizen's property
One shall not intrude into others lives
One should respect others and their property
Here are some examples of unacceptable behaviour,
which,
unfortunately has become commonplace.
The person
who
terrorizes neighborhoods with a loud motor
vehicle and screeching tires.
Most of us have experienced this problem. Freedom
does
not
give any citizen the right to intrude on the lives of others by
such
behaviour. Such activity shows a lack of respect for others.
I often wonder
if these people also behave this way in their
own neighborhood.
A related activity that is commonplace and
disturbing
is the
number of cars with sound systems so loud they rattle the
windows
of nearby homes. This is not only disturbing, it is
dangerous. The driver
of such a vehicle cannot hear an
emergency vehicle or be paying attention
to their driving.
Because the local fire station is only two blocks
from my home,
I often observe vehicles which do not make way, even in an
emergency, because the driver cannot hear anything outside
due to an unacceptably loud sound system.
Another related issue is the fact that such citizens
are contributing
to the threat of terrorism. You may ask how this is possible. Those
citizens who are
consuming more oil energy than is necessary
are contributing to this country's
oil deficit. Every oil dollar we as
a nation send to unstable oil-producing countries subsidizes terrorism.
The person who trespasses on property which they do not own.
Most of us have experienced this problem when
someone
takes
a shortcut across your property. Whatever happened to the
respect
for other people's property?
When I grew up it was understood that one
should not trespass
on anyone's property without permission, even
if it is someone
you know.
Freedom does
not
grant anyone the permission to dump trash
on someone else's property.
Many homeowners pick up trash on a daily basis.
This
trash has
been deposited by others who have no respect for other people
and their property. Most
citizens find this disgusting. Smokers
and dog walkers are some of the
worst offenders. On an average
I pick up over 100 cigarette butts each
week and I don't even
want to think about the dog poop problem and other
unmentionables.
I have picked up everything from beer bottles, CDs,
cell phones,
car parts, cardboard, clothing and many other things
that I will
not mention.
